Who we are

At SAGA we offer a unique blend of combat karate and multi-discipline martial arts training for children aged 8-16 in Southam, Cheltenham and the surrounding areas including, Bishops Cleeve, Woodmancote, Tewkesbury and Prestbury.

Providing affordable classes to the local community is very important to us. With a focus on accessibility and inclusivity, our academy provides top-tier training at just £25 per month.

Our classes run every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm - 7pm in the Southam Village Hall (a few mins drive from Bishops Cleeve).

Our coach, Rob is a seasoned martial arts coach with extensive experience in Karate, Kickboxing, Judo and Kudo. He’s also accredited by the British Combat Karate Association.

Whether you're a beginner looking to learn new skills and get fit or an experienced fighter looking to take your skillset into the next level of competition, you’ll be welcome here.

What we teach

Our combat karate programme for 8-16 year olds is designed to build confidence, develop new skills and create winners.

Our style is karate based but incorporates techniques from other martial arts, including Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing.

With our Martial Arts academy in Southam, Cheltenham your child will learn:

  • Striking - develop speed, precision and power with every punch and kick

  • Throwing - master balance and control by learning how to execute powerful throws

  • Submissions - learn safe and effective submission techniques to boost confidence

    We incorporate and learn from a variety of Martial Arts at our academy so you can perfect certain techniques and be a well rounded martial artist!

  • Yes, of course! If you’re new to martial arts or just new to the area and are looking for the best academy for you, feel free to book in a no obligation free trial at our academy in Cheltenham.

  • We all start where you are starting from so rest assured we know the feeling! At SAGA we cater for all abilities from complete novices through to competition prep. We’d be delighted to see you join us on the mats.

  • For your first trial, just dress for the occasion in gym clothing and we’ll take care of the rest. We try not to lend out Gis for hygiene reasons but gloves & training equipment can be provided to all students.

  • Like with all martial arts, sparring is an integral part of learning and testing your progression over time. Bumps or knocks are part of the fun but we make sure to build up to this only if and when you are comfortable doing so.

  • Our lead instructor is Rob, a seasoned martial arts expert with extensive experience in Karate, Kickboxing, Judo, and Kudo.

    Rob is passionate about teaching and dedicated to helping students achieve their martial arts goals.
